Student Activities

ASHRAE SCHOLARSHIP

The Scholarship is a $1000 one-time award, given annually to a qualified student in the Mississippi Valley Chapter assigned area. This includes the region generally bounded by Bettendorf, Davenport, Burlington, De Witt, and Dubuque, Iowa; Rock Island, Moline, Sterling, Kewanee, Galesburg, and Monmouth, Illinois.


QUALIFICATIONS

1. The applicant may be an undergraduate student enrolled in any accredited college recognized by ASHRAE. The student should be pursuing a course of study that could lead to a career in the profession of Heating, Ventilating, Air-conditioning, and/or Refrigeration (HVAC/R). The student should have at least one year of study remaining.
2. The applicant may be a high school senior in a college prep or vocational program who will be attending college in engineering or pre-engineering with an interest in a career in the profession of Heating, Ventilating, Air-conditioning and/or Refrigeration (HVAC/R).
3. The applicant may be a high school senior who will be attending Trade or Technical School with an interest in HVAC/R drafting, design, or service.

ASHRAE SCHOLARSHIP

ASHRAE scholarships are designed to encourage and assist heating, ventilating, air-conditioning and refrigeration education through the granting of a scholarship at the undergraduate level. The program also serves the public interest in aiding in the education of men and women to become qualified to practice as engineers in the HVAC and/or refrigeration field.

ASHRAE Scholarships are available to undergraduate students enrolled in any school provided the curriculum in which the student is enrolled is accredited by an agency recognized by ASHRAE and the student is pursuing a course of study which has traditionally been a preparatory curriculum for the profession of HVAC and/or refrigeration.

Basic criteria on which all scholarships are granted are as follows:
1. Prior academic performance - A minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
2. Recommendations from instructors and references.
3. Character, involvement in other activities and leadership ability.
4. Potential service to the HVAC and/or refrigeration profession, and involvement in ASHRAE chapter or student branch activities.

Applications shall be received no later than March 26, 2010. The following data must be submitted:
1. Completed and signed application form.
2. A letter of recommendation from Professor or Faculty Advisor.
3. Two or more additional letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with applicant's character, accomplishments and likelihood of success in the HVAC and/or refrigeration industry.

Applicants will be notified of the Selection Committee's decision by April 23, 2010. The winner will be invited to attend the Chapter's monthly meeting on May 20, 2010 to accept the scholarship.
